ELECTRICAL ENGINEER (Entry Level, Mid Level and PLC)

The GBS Group is currently looking to hire experienced electrical engineers who can support our work within the defense industry. Candidates will work with our defense industry clients to support new development and/or lifecycle management projects for design, modernization, overhaul, and repair of ships. Candidates will work with Navy programs and ship systems supporting various hull, mechanical and electrical systems (HM&E), and research, development, test and evaluation (RDT&E) programs for the Naval Surface Warfare Center.

Position Requirements:

  • Provide engineering support for shipboard electrical systems.
  • Apply electrical engineering principles to support systems engineering, for various shipboard HM&E systems, equipment, and RDT&E programs.
  • Review specifications, technical manuals, and other technical documentation that relate to HM&E systems, and RDT&E programs.
  • Provide direct support to the assigned program technical manager.
  • Provide supporting technical and logistics support, and produce supporting documentation.
  • Resolve all equipment and systems issues.

Additional Requirements for PLC Position:

Develop, implement, and test PLC applications which not only monitor and control shipboard hardware but also interact with shipboard Machinery Control System (MCS) software developed by other team members in C++ and/or Java.

Skills Required:

  • Entry-Level Position

    • One to three (1-3) years of experience in Navy Ship Steam and Auxiliary systems, including electrical/electronic system design, repair, installation, modification, operation, maintenance and testing of Navy equipment or systems.

    • Knowledge of Navy programs, organizations and functions.

  • Mid-Level Position

    • Five (5) years of experience in Navy Ship Steam and Auxiliary systems, including electrical/electronics system design, repair, installation, modification, operation, maintenance and testing of Navy equipment or systems.

    • Knowledge of Navy programs, organizations and functions.

  • PLC Postion
    • Three to five (3- 5) years of experience in Navy Ship Steam and Auxiliary systems, including electrical/electronic system design, repair, installation, modification, operation, maintenance and testing of Navy equipment or systems.

    • Five (5) years of experience developing PLC logic for the control and monitoring of ship systems.

    • Knowledge of shipboard system design and installation including: transmission / power train, navigation, ship service electricity generation, pump/piping systems, and HVAC.

    • Familiarity with USCG, ABS, MARPOL, SOLAS, and Navy design standards, and should be capable of applying these to design activities.

    • Capable of inspecting and surveying existing ships, and should also have the ability to read and interpret original design drawings, technical manuals, equipment specifications, and existing PLC code, for incorporation into new designs.
    • Familiarity with the use of document and software source code version control applications such as Microsoft Visual Source Safe and/or Subversion (SVN).
    • Knowledge of Navy programs, organizations and functions.

Candidates are required to possess the following professional qualifications:

  • Strong work ethics and dedication.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance required.
  • Attention to quality and details. 
  • Must possess problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to travel 25%.
  • Must be able to read, use, and understand complex marine schematics and drawings.
  • Must work well with peopld and possess excellent oral and written communicaiton skills.

ENGNEERING TECHNICIAN (Senior Level)

The GBS Group is currently looking to hire an experienced engineering technician who can support our work within the defense industry. Candidates will work with our defense industry clients to support new development and/or lifecycle management projects for design, modernization, overhaul, and repair of ships. Candidates will work with Navy programs and ship systems supporting various hull, mechanical and electrical systems (HM&E), and research, development, test and evaluation (RDT&E) programs for the Naval Surface Warfare Center.

Position Requirements:

  • Apply engineering principles to support systems engineering, for various shipboard HM&E systems, equipment, and RDT&E programs.
  • Review specifications, technical manuals, and other technical documentation that relate to HM&E systems, and RDT&E programs.
  • Provide direct support to the assigned program technical manager.
  • Resolve all equipment and systems issues.

Skills Required:

  • Ten (10) years of experience in Navy programs and ship systems, including distributed machinery control systems including the installation of systems, ship alterations and overhauls, testing, shipboard systems planning, estimating and scheduling work.

  • Ten (10) years of experience in Surface Ship Auxiliary and Machinery and fluid control systems including, but not limited to: Aircraft Launch Recovery Equipment (ALRE), Aviation Fuel and lube oil systems, Flight refueling, Aviation Fuel Operating Sequencing Systems (AFOSS), Service Life Extension Program (SLEP) for Logistics Support Vessel-1 (LSV-1) Class, Shock and vibration testing and analysis, Lube oil heater analysis, fuel oil separators, Ship alterations and repairs. 

  • Knowledge of Navy programs, organizations, and functions.

  • Graduate of high school, trade school or industrial school or GED equivalent.

Candidates are required to possess the following professional qualifications:

  • Strong work ethics and dedication.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance required.

 Some additional requirements are:

  •     U.S. Citizen
  •     Willing to travel 25%
  •     Classified or greater security clearance or the ability to obtain one
