GBS upgraded the 88 Year old Dredge JADWIN Ladder Hoist Winch System

On 10 Mar 2020, The GBS Group was awarded an Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) Multiple Award Task Order Contract (MATOC) that will support work assigned to the Philadelphia District (NAP) and Marine Design Center (MDC), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), for Electrical and Electronic System Support of maintenance, upgrade, alteration, and retrofit of existing USACE floating plants nationwide consisting of approximately 2,500 different vessels.  The period of performance is five (5) years from date of award.

In addition to being awarded the overall contract, The GBS Group was awarded the first Task Order under the MATOC for the procurement of a new ladder hoist winch system, including AC motor and drive and new AC motors and drives for the two hauling winches, for Vicksburg District’s Dustpan Dredge JADWIN. This scope of work also includes termination of all cabling, system start up, commissioning and testing associated with the installation of the components.

The hoist winch on the Dredge JADWIN is used to raise and lower the dredge ladder during dredging operations. The hoist winch is critical to the operation and safety of the dredge. It is anticipated that the winch will be required to cycle (hoist and lower) once every 30 minutes for a period of weeks at a time. Operation of the dredge during this timeframe will be 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, usually for 7 to 8 months per year. All components shall be designed for this operating profile as well as safety and reliability.

The Chief Operating Officer (COO), retired RADM Rick Berkey stated that “this is another significant contract and task order award for The GBS Group as we expand our reach into the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to complement our growing customer base with Military Sealift Command (MSC), U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA), Maritime Administration (MARAD), and commercial maritime companies.  This task order on JADWIN also expands our corporate experience for solving unique, complex customer problems with solid technical and reliable designs that will support USACE for many years to come.”
