“This is a pivotal win for the GBS team as we have targeted and grown our expertise and capabilities in controls and automation work over the past nine years to include Integrated Bridge Systems and Navigation systems, Propulsion Control and Ship Electrical Control systems.  This work has included over 12 platforms and classes of ships in MSC, US Coast Guard, and NOAA.  Up to this point, all of our work has been modernization or upgrades to operating ships and systems.  With this award, we move into the new construction arena which is where we are looking to expand our footprint” said Rick Berkey (RADM, ret), The GBS Group Chief Operating Officer.

The GBS Group will follow a structured design process to develop an IBS design that can be fully integrated into the VT Halter Marine overall ship design.  The GBS Group work includes IBS engineering, design, drafting, ILS development, test procedure development, material procurement, SCC construction, mockup, shipping, installation assistance, commissioning, and dock and sea trial support for the following systems:

  • Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS)
  • Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS)
