Employee Highlight: Meet Braden Gibson

GBS Senior Systems Engineer

Braden Gibson was just a young software developer with a Computer Science degree when The GBS Group sent him off to work on Amtrak trains in D.C.

It wasn’t long before the work inspired a love for electrical and mechanical engineering, and touched off a GBS career journey that has since moved from the trainyard to the open sea.

The vast amount of experience I have gained here has been beyond anything I could have gained working somewhere else,” Braden says. “Each job has helped me learn a new skill that I could apply for future jobs.

That’s exactly what happened in D.C. when his engineering interests eventually pulled him back to work on controls and automation in the GBS Maritime division.

Today, with the company’s valuable tuition reimbursement benefits in his backpack, he’s in the process of earning his Professional Engineering license in electrical engineering. Within the next five years, he hopes to earn his MBA, too.

“GBS has continued to challenge me over the years, which is one of the main reasons I have loved working here,” he says.

Now approaching his 10-year anniversary at GBS, it doesn’t take Braden long to name his biggest and most challenging project so far: The Integrated Bridge System upgrade aboard the USNS Zeus. The cable ship, the only in its class, is capable of laying 1,000 miles of cable in the ocean at depths of up to 9,000 feet.

“With the USNS Zeus project, I was put into a position that made me think outside of the box and manage parts of a project that were new to me,” he says.

“This project ultimately has helped shape me into who I am today.”

Thanks for all your hard work, Braden, and for continuing your amazing career journey with GBS!
