Employee Highlight: Meet Minu Vettihanam

GBS Rail Division’s Software Development Manager keeps the teamwork — and her kids — on track.

Passionate Manager. Relationship builder. Results-driven. Awesome Leader.

Ask just about anyone at GBS about Minu Vettihanam, and the superlatives won’t stop there. So maybe it’s time you met Minu, our Software Development Manager in the GBS Rail & Transportation Division and an all-around amazing person.

At the office, she’s known as a versatile, hands-on technology leader who leads strategic IT initiatives within the Rail and Transportation Division and builds partnerships between teams and stakeholders to drive results. Her experience includes analysis, design and development for various n-tier applications, in addition to managing software development for enterprise-level applications, data warehouse & reporting landscape, release management. She’s also well-versed in Agile methodologies for software development, and a Certified SAFe® Program Consultant.

But when she’s not here being a Super Leader, chances are she’s at home being Super Mom, baking up a storm with her two young girls, ages 9 and 5, and driving them all over town to their many extracurricular activities.

I enjoy spending time with my girls while they are still young and still think I am cool enough to hang out with them“, she says with a laugh.

Although her family hails from Kerala, India, Minu was born and raised in Abu Dhabi, UAE. She completed her undergrad in India and moved to the United States in 2008. She earned her Bachelor’s in Technology in Electronics from Mahatma Gandhi University, India, and an MBA from the University of Arizona. Lucky for us, she found her way to GBS after the family moved to Virginia Beach in 2017.

GBS has offered a lot of opportunities for me to grow as a leader in technology,” she says. “The variety of projects, challenges and opportunities to curate solutions for both internal product development and for clients within the Rail and Transportation industry has helped broaden my skills cross-functionally — not just technical, but also building and leveraging relations, and converting strategic thinking into workable plans to deliver value.

Despite her many successes at GBS, Minu is always quick to credit her team for, well, just about anything:

Her biggest accomplishments at GBS?  Delivering value and customer satisfaction with her team, she says.

Her most rewarding project? Collaborating with stakeholders on the firm’s recent project with ProgressRail … and rallying with her team to address issues and meet deadlines.

Responding to the challenges of the pandemic? Her talented team made it all possible, she says.

Her return to yoga? Yep, you guessed it. Her GBS colleagues got her back into it.

“Teamwork makes the dream work,” she says. And who can argue?

In her spare time, Minu does find a little “me” time. In addition to her return to the yoga mat, she has also revived her interest in dance by performing with friends at cultural festivals organized by members of the Virginia Beach Indian community. Oh, and she loves to bake.

“I am by no means an expert, but I love watching the how-to videos and trying to recreate it at home, with my two small assistants.”

Teamwork, again. See what we mean?
